June 30, 2020 - Cadet CeCe Reed was recently awarded by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) the outstanding student in the JROTC Program for the year 2020.
The opening words from her biography are, "I would like to start by saying how thankful I am for being nominated for such a highly honoring award." Through the years that she has been in JROTC, Reed has joined all the teams that this amazing program offers and has accompanied her fellow team mates to win trophies and medals. She pushed the people that think they can't do something to make them believe they can do whatever they put their minds to. By supporting others is how to help make your team stronger, and furthering your team bond high is something she finds very important because the more you work together, the purpose for the work becomes stronger and so do you.
Reed also plays on the Grant County Lady Braves Variety Soccer Team. She has played soccer since the age of 6 and will continue to play as long as she possibly can. She is passionate about soccer because it has shaped her into the strong young lady she is.
This young lady lives on a farm with her parents, Geoff and Diane, and two older brothers. She describes the 200 acres in the middle of the beautiful rolling hills and majestic forests of Kentucky her home. Through the years, Reed's family has had horses, lambs, rams, chickens, and rabbits. Having and being surrounded by animals all her life changed how she sees the world and life itself. You see many pass from various seasons. You will see life born into the world, which makes you gentle.
Reed has been involved in 4-H since she could talk. She showed dogs at the age of 6 and won first place six consecutive times. She showed and sold cows (for the first time when she was 9) for four years at the fair and bought a car that she has now with the money she received and put the rest toward college tuition. 4-H Camp has probably been her favorite part. This year will one her 10th year and her third as a junior counselor, she hopes to be an actual counselor for a summer eventually.
It's not about how hard you hit, but how hard you can hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward, that is how winning is done."
Reed was chosen for the Bronze JROTC Medal by CSM (Commander Sergeant Major) Charles Duffe. She is congratulated by M. Catherine Monk, National Defense Committee Chapter Chair, Captain John Lillard Chapter, NSDAR.
